Brisbane Airport welcomes first ATM with Travelex

Exchange company Travelex launched an ATM service that allows customers to pre-order foreign currency online and withdraw it from within Brisbane Airport.

Travelex’s click-and-collect ATM would be the first of its kind at Brisbane Airport. In August, the travel agency launched a service similar to Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 5.

To use the service, customers are required to place their order through the Travelex website and then securely collect their currency from selected ATMs, using their phone and credentials. There are no collection fees and the service is flexible; allowing orders to be picked up at any time within 72 hours of a selected collection date. Currently, collection will be limited to the equivalent of 800 Australian dollars in euros or US dollars.

Darren BrownManaging Director ANZ of Travelex, said: “We are delighted to be offering the first foreign currency Click & Collect service here in Australia, which will allow our customers to not only access their currency in a new, fast and convenient way , but also to do it at our best possible rates.

“We have a long-standing relationship with Brisbane Airport; in fact, our very first FX ATM in Australia was at Brisbane Airport, so it only made sense to partner with them on this innovation.

“Unfortunately, buying foreign currency at an airport has a reputation for being expensive. We continually review rate plans and options to ensure that Travelex airport services offer our customers better value than other airports. ATM click and collect goes one step further, allowing consumers to obtain foreign currency at our best rates, with the convenience of airport pickup.

According to the Travelex click-and-collect section of its website, these vending machines are located on both level four in the check-in counter area and level three in the departures hall near gates 80 and 81. If the order is not collected within 72 hours of the selected date, the order is blocked and cancelled. Following this cancellation, the customer’s payment will be refunded – although a $10 cancellation fee will be deducted.

Martin RyanExecutive Managing Director of Commercial, Brisbane Airport Corporation, commented on the introduction of these ATMs at the airport: “The launch of ATM click & collect at Brisbane Airport represents the next chapter in our successful relationship and long time with Travelex.

“We are delighted to be the first airport in Australia to launch this new product, which fits perfectly with our focus on innovative digital solutions and will help to further streamline our travelers’ airport experience – while guaranteeing the best possible Travelex rates.”
