Kamina Smith meets with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mauritius – Alan Ganoo before the opening of CHOGM


Rwanda: Kamina Johnson Smith- Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Jamaica, met Alan Ganoo, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mauritius, ahead of the opening of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2022, scheduled to take place in Kigali, Rwanda at from June 20, 2022, for June 25, 2022.

Kamina Johnson Smith expressed her pleasure to lead a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and said, “It was a pleasure to meet Alan Ganoo, Minister of Foreign Affairs of #Mauritius, ahead of the opening of #CHOGM2022 in #Kigali” .

The two dignitaries discussed various multilateral partnerships and bilateral exchanges. She also shared her candidacy for the position of Commonwealth Secretary General.

Kamina Smith said: “The time was spent having an excellent discussion on our multilateral partnership on common issues including #climate #oceans #trade as well as my candidacy for the position of Commonwealth Secretary General.”

Kamina Smith traveled to Kigali, Rwanda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting where her candidacy for the appointment of Secretary General will be decided.

The theme of this year’s CHOGM is “Delivering a Common Future: Connect, Innovate, Transform”. It focuses on key priority areas that reflect global challenges to which the Commonwealth must respond appropriately. These are equity, prosperity, security and sustainability.

In CHOGM 2022, Kamina Smith was engaged in different events and different diplomatic leaders where she discussed her candidacy for the leadership position and other key issues such as climate change, development and sustainability.

Kamina Smith has also participated in the Commonwealth Business Forum and the Commonwealth Youth Forum, where she discussed oceans, climate change, women and youth empowerment, democracy and governance.

Kamina Smith also led an interactive meeting with MP Nanaia Mahuta – Hauraki-Waikato, who is New Zealand’s Foreign Minister.

Additionally, during the Commonwealth Youth Forum, Kamina Smith had a great interaction with delegates from countries such as Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania, #Mozambique #Ghana #Bangladesh #India #Malaysia # Barbados and #Trinidad.

Kamina Smith is the Jamaican candidate for Commonwealth Secretary General and has traveled to various countries to promote herself. She also shared Jamaica’s various multilateral cooperations on critical issues.

At CHOGM 2022, various countries such as the Caribbean region, India and the United Kingdom have reached and are all ready to show their decisions for the candidacy of the Commonwealth Secretary General.

Additionally, along with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom – Boris Johnson, the Duchess of Cornwall also joined CHOGM 2022.
