Norges Bank foreign exchange transactions in January 2022

Press release

Norges Bank foreign exchange transactions in January 2022

Norges Bank will sell foreign currency on behalf of the government equivalent to NOK 250 million per day in January 2022.

Norges Bank buys foreign currency from SDFI on a monthly basis. If the government’s net cash flow from oil activities exceeds the non-oil budget deficit, part of the foreign exchange purchased from SDFI is transferred to GPFG. Norges Bank sells the remaining amount on the market.

If the government’s net cash flow from oil activities is insufficient to cover the non-oil budget deficit, foreign exchange will be transferred from the GPFG to cover part of the budget deficit. Norges Bank will then sell the GPFG currencies, along with the SDFI currencies, in the market. The Norges Bank performs this task on behalf of the government.
