Muscat: A press conference was held by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Oman and the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs on the sidelines of the official visit of the Russian Minister to the Sultanate of Oman.
“His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, hold a press conference on the sidelines of the Russian Minister’s official visit to the Sultanate of Oman,” said said Oman News Agency ( ONA), said in a statement.
The Russian minister said: “During my meeting with officials of the Sultanate of Oman, bilateral relations and economic cooperation were discussed, as well as the increase in trade between the two countries.”
The Russian minister added that Russia is seeking to strengthen trade cooperation with Oman in order to increase the volume of trade to meet the aspirations of both sides.
“We have agreed with the Omani side to expand a set of bilateral agreements, including mutual visa exemption for citizens of both countries, and a cooperation agreement between the Russian Museum and the Omani National Museum,” he said. said the Russian minister.
“We appreciate the role of the Sultanate of Oman in resolving the Syrian issue, and we believe that the time has come for Syria to return to the League of Arab States, and we believe that Oman is able to contribute effectively to this question.”
“The Omani side has been briefed on the latest developments of Russian operations in Ukraine and their geopolitical dimension,” added the Russian Foreign Minister.
His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs affirms that the Sultanate of Oman supports all international efforts that work to make negotiations on the Iranian nuclear file a success. He said we do not blame any party for disrupting the negotiations, but we support dialogue and direct conversation.
“We discussed with the Russian side many issues of common interest, as well as a number of regional and international issues,” the Omani foreign minister said.
His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Sultanate of Oman is following the situation in Ukraine with great interest and calls on all parties to exercise restraint and resolve disputes peacefully in order to avoid escalating the situation.
Al Busaidi added that the Sultanate supports all international efforts, especially United Nations efforts, which aim to enhance security and stability in the region.
The Russian Foreign Minister describes Oman’s position on the Russian-Ukrainian war as “balanced”.
