Syrian Foreign Minister meets Bzhania –

Kremlin-backed Abkhaz leader Aslan Bzhania met with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad as part of the latter’s ongoing visit to the occupied region to discuss bilateral relations and deepening cooperation.

By base of Sokhoumi apsnypress, at the meeting, Bzhania recalled her own visit to syria in 2021 and expressed his certainty that the visit of the Syrian Foreign Minister “will give new impetus to our relations”.

“We attach great importance to the first visit of such a high-ranking delegation from the Syrian Arab Republic and express the desire to receive other representatives of the Syrian leadership and government in the near future,” Bzhania said. and conveyed an invitation to Syria. President Bashar al-Assad.

Bzhania drew attention to the historical roots of Abkhazian-Syrian relations as well as the six international agreements that have been signed between the two. In particular, he highlighted the “Abkhazian-Syrian joint committee for economic, commercial, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation” and its efforts to deepen collaboration in these areas.

“We consider it extremely important to work on the exchange of investments, as well as the use of transit and export potential,” Bzhania said.

He said he is ready to cooperate with Syria “on all international platforms and hopes that Syria will support the expansion of contacts with countries friendly to Syria in the Middle East”.

For its part, FM Mekdad thanked Bzhania for the reception and said, “The friendship between the two presidents gives us reason to hope for promising relations between our countries.”

He also remarked that “during the negotiations with Minister Inal Ardzinba, I realized that we had no disagreements…” On this note, FM Mekdad expressed his optimism for the development of bilateral relations and stressed that they will assist their respective ambassadors “so that every issue that has been discussed during our meetings comes to fruition.

“Abkhazia has paid a high price for its independence, and we will help you defend it together,” promised the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting brought together Jansukh Nanba, the Abkhaz “head of the presidential administration”, Inal Ardzinba, the “foreign minister”, Bagrat Khutaba, the “Abkhaz ambassador to Syria”, and Riad Haddad, the Syrian ambassador to Russia.
